I think I need help with this..

this whole jw thing is doing my head in.

this universal issue, this good and bad stuff, right and wrong.. i don't think i'll ever make my mind up which way to jump, i keep trying to rationalise in my mind where i am and where i'm going.

its like being stuck constantly in a rut.

Sounds like you've been thoroughly indoctrinated. It's OK, since it doesn't have to be terminal. You feel guilty over your sexuality. That guilt was force-fed to you by the WTS.

Guilt is the WTS's number one weapon. It's also one of the major reasons someone would join/rejoin the JWs. I know from experience. Guilt leads to religion.

My advice would be to sever yourself from any religion/dogma for a while and see what happens. You may learn to be totally self-reliant intellectually, seeing a man-made program of "spiritual food" as the ridiculous sham that it is. Trust me, once you get here you'll never want to leave. Will man evolve a beyound any need for religion???

since evolution has caused our species to have bigger and better brains as time went on,,will we eventually evolve beyound any need for religion??

Don't forget that along with the evolution comes child-rearing. If a kid is not raised religiously, then he will learn the necessary coping skills and probably will never come to be a god-worshipper.

The way the world's children are raised can work much faster than waiting on evolution.

Scary pictures

i remember as a kid being freaked out by two pictures.

one was of the demons floating away leaving their screaming wives and babies during the flood, and the other was the collage with the gas mask guy and the kid holding his hands over his ears and the dead guy with the chopsticks.... .

oh yes, did i mention that i wasn't allowed to watch the care bears movie as a kid because of the "frightening and demonic" scenes?

Why are the lion and the lamb nuzzling? Post-coital bliss? Cold weather? Drank a little too much at the ol' River of Life?

Can you really blame the outsiders? A thousand years surrounded by JWs? I'd have a stick and a headband, too! Maybe even grow a beard!! Besides, after 1000 years of seeing nature tamed and pasteurized, that dragon would seem pretty damn cool!

ok, these damn elders have pushed it.

they've told my g/f that i don't believe in god and hate and despise him.

they've told her that by disobeying the elders advice, she is disobeying jehovah.

The elders have made their decision.....they don't want her to be with you, and they'll use everything in their power to scare her away from you. This may actually work to your benefit if she has something to prove....going with the "bad boy" generally pisses off the powers that be....parents or elders.

Don't know your exact situation, but confronting the elders probably won't change much, may reenforce their present opinion. Your g/f has to make a choice, just make sure you offer her enough to seal the deal.

Do hours in preaching affect social status?

deep down, i guess i know the answer to this one, but what the heck?

is it common for someone to have a diminished jw social life for no other reason than being a low-hour publisher?

not to seem conceited, but at the hall i was always smiling and quick-witted (i believe), talked to all types happily, gave good talks and demos, dressed well, smelled good, etc.

Deep down, I guess I know the answer to this one, but what the heck? Is it common for someone to have a diminished JW social life for no other reason than being a low-hour publisher? Not to seem conceited, but at the hall I was always smiling and quick-witted (I believe), talked to all types happily, gave good talks and demos, dressed well, smelled good, etc. But my ministry hours ran from 4-8 per month, rarely higher.

I always felt out of the clique, invited to things third-person, if at all, through my super-dub younger brother. Actually, it all makes sense now, because I just wasn't with these people for enough hours per month to take our friendships to that higher level. If anyone wants to share experience or wisdom on this topic, I'd like to read it. Thanks.

I swear David Lee Roth is one of the wordlies at the end of the 1000-year reign. Don't have the book with me, but if you have a Revelation book (1988) turn to the picture of the crowd of "evil" people surrounding the JWs at the end of the millennium, you know, the ones that return to Satan. I'm telling you, David Lee Roth is there with a headband and a pumping fist, as I recall. Gives a whole new meaning to "Runnin' with the Devil."

Lemme get this straight. If eating the forbidden fruit made us more god-like, why did god talk directly to pre-fruit Adam, but now has no definite contact with any of us supposedly god-like beings, knowing good and evil? Becoming more like god has ended his contact with us? Doesn't make too much sense to me.

Anyone ever been to the meeting drunk or stoned???

ok funny question....i have a friend who used to get to the meeting drunk as a skunk sometimes and he'd play it off nicely.

i do know of a couple of times he came stoned too.

anyone here ever do that, or knew someone who did??

Been there stoned, not a good time IMO.

Went to a book study or two after drinking. Once guzzled a six-pack in the hour before the study. Couldn't stop smirking. Also lost ability to whisper. Didn't matter, though. Book study conductor was well-known, good-spirited boozer, along with his wife. Even if they noticed, they wouldn't mind.

The only time period in which I actually enjoyed field service was when I was drinking quite heavily, especially on weekends. Waking up drunk on Saturday morning can lead to poor judgement, as this attests to quite well.

Weird memorial talk?

my book study conductors study must have been sleep cuz he was pissed when they made him pass the bread then he didnt want to touch the wine, and ran out of the hall.

Congregation Book Studies in a brothers home-What weirdness did you endure?

when i was new witness in the late 70's i was assigned to young couples new home.

we were required to park our shoes inside the back door and proceed in our socks to the front room...fine.

the other piece to this was the couple hosting study had a big male blood hound dog of some kind.

One book study I was stuck in for years was hosted by a retired couple with especially cold blood. The heat was always cranked to at least 75-80 F. Couple that with a 20 paragraph study and it was impossible to stay awake. Shame since my dad conducted.

I've also been to the one with a no shoes policy and an annoying, blind, nose-in-your-crotch kind of dog. The hosts were also to "economical" to spring for a decent amount of light or to crank up the A/C to accomodate 15 roasting people. Yes, Johnny, there is a hell.
